How long do prints from glow resin glow?
Prints made from our glow-in-the-dark 3D printing resin glow for approx. 4 hours in complete darkness, depending on how well they were charged with light beforehand. They are at their strongest in the first few minutes. Solid areas glow more strongly than thin walls – worth bearing in mind when you design a model. How afterglow works is explained on a separate page.
Green or green-blue?
Both colours glow for the same length of time; they differ in the shade of the glow.
| Resin | Glow | Afterglow duration |
|---|---|---|
| Green | base shade of glow pigments, glows most strongly | approx. 4 h |
| Green-blue | slightly cooler shade | approx. 4 h |
How to get evenly glowing prints
- Shake the bottle vigorously for at least 2 minutes before pouring. The pigments are heavier than the resin and settle.
- Start with your printer's standard settings. Because of the slightly thicker consistency, increase the light-off time by 1–2 seconds if necessary.
- Keep printed objects to a maximum height of approx. 10 cm. During longer prints the pigments can sink slightly, and the object glows unevenly.
- After printing, pour leftover resin back into the bottle.
Adhesion to the build plate: If the build plate has a factory release coating, as on the Elegoo Mars, lightly sand it with sandpaper that is not too coarse and use a burn-in exposure of at least 60 seconds for the first layers.
You can mix the glow resin with other printing resins; the glow intensity then decreases proportionally. If you would rather choose the colour and pigment share yourself, tint clear printing resin with glow pigments – more on this in the 3D printing & resins overview.
Good to know
The resin carries the CLP signal word “Warning”: it irritates the skin, eyes and respiratory tract, may cause an allergic skin reaction and is harmful to aquatic life. Wear protective gloves and eye protection and ensure good ventilation. Details are in the data sheet under safety data sheets. Afterglow is a visual effect and an aid to orientation, visible in real darkness.
