What is thermochromic printing resin?
Thermochromic printing resin is a resin whose prints change colour with temperature. Objects made from our resin are blue and turn white at 37 °C, for example through touch or warm water. As they cool, the blue returns. The change is reversible.
The resin at a glance
It prints like standard resin; no special settings are needed. It suits all resin printers that expose with UV light around 405 nm.
| Effect | blue below 37 °C, white from 37 °C |
|---|---|
| Printers | DLP, SLA, LFS, LCD and LCS with a UV source around 405 nm |
| Print result | high hardness, low shrinkage, low odour during processing |
| Mixable | with other printing resins |
| Contents | 500 g in a light-proof, leak-proof bottle |
How to print with thermochromic resin
- Start with your printer's standard values for standard resin.
- If the consistency is thicker, increase the light-off time – the pause without light between two layers – by 1–2 seconds.
- Keep printed objects to a maximum height of approx. 10 cm.
- After printing, pour leftover resin back into the bottle so you can reuse it.
If you mix the resin with other printing resins, check the mixture with a small test print first.
Good to know
This resin does not glow in the dark – it only changes colour. For glowing prints there is the glow-in-the-dark 3D printing resin in green and green-blue; all printing resins compared are under 3D printing & resins.
Liquid printing resin is a chemical. Wear protective gloves and safety glasses, ventilate well and avoid skin contact. The hazard and safety information is on the bottle; you will find the data sheet under safety data sheets or receive it on request.
