What are glow in the dark stickers?
Glow in the dark stickers are self-adhesive vinyl films with glow pigment that store light and release it in the dark. They glow without electricity, cables or batteries. You charge them with daylight or lamplight, as often as you like.
The glow pigment absorbs light and slowly releases it once the light is switched off. In the planets and the glow film, this pigment is strontium aluminate, today the common material for a long afterglow. Our stickers glow green; the glow film comes in yellow-green and blue-green. During the day you see the printed design, in the dark you see the glow.
Which stickers and films are available?
The range consists of four groups: planets and moon, fairy-tale designs, sticker sheets and glow film to cut to shape. The table shows the differences. The afterglow duration always applies after a full charge, in complete darkness.
| Group | Designs | Size | Afterglow |
|---|---|---|---|
| Planets and moon | Sun, planets, Pluto and full moon as photo prints | individually mostly 30 cm diameter, moon 12, 30 or 40 cm | several hours |
| Fairy-tale stickers | 6 fairy tales as paper-cut silhouettes in a round frame | 30 cm diameter | several hours, deliberately soft |
| Designs and sets | stars, dots, unicorns, butterflies, rockets, monsters, letters and numbers | DIN A4 sheet, designs approx. 1–10 cm | over 6 hours |
| Glow film | film in yellow-green or blue-green to cut to shape | DIN A4 | visible for over 6 hours |
Planets and moon
The planet stickers show the Sun, planets and moon as photorealistic prints. They are available individually or as a solar system with 9 designs, made in proportion to one another. This lets you create your own solar system on a wall or ceiling.
Fairy-tale stickers
The fairy-tale stickers show scenes such as Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel or the Town Musicians of Bremen as silhouettes. They are original lumentics designs. Only the light areas glow, and deliberately softly, so that children are not disturbed while falling asleep.
Designs and sets
The sticker sheets carry many individual stickers on a DIN A4 sheet: 225 glow stars, 257 or 150 glow dots, unicorns, butterflies, rockets, monsters, and letters and numbers. Use them for a starry sky on the ceiling or to put a name on a child's bedroom door.
Glow film
The glow film is a self-adhesive DIN A4 sheet from which you cut your own shapes. Scissors, a craft knife or a cutting plotter will do. Use it to mark light switches, door handles or orientation points in the hallway, for example.
How to apply glow in the dark stickers
You stick glow stickers onto a clean, dry surface without tools or extra glue. Three steps are enough:
- Clean the surface: it should be dry and free of dust and grease.
- Peel off the backing, align the design and smooth it down from the centre outwards.
- Before first use, hold it close to a bright lamp or in sunlight for about half a minute. Then switch off the light.
Cut the glow film to shape first: draw your design on the back, cut it out, peel off the backing and stick it in place.
Which surfaces do the stickers stick to?
The stickers stick to smooth surfaces such as walls, doors, wardrobe fronts, furniture, tiles or glass, and to woodchip wallpaper. On woodchip, the texture should not be too coarse. On heavily textured surfaces a sticker holds less well than on smooth ones.
All stickers are intended for indoor use. You can also use the glow film outdoors if it is sheltered from the weather, for example on a window or letterbox.
How long and how brightly do the stickers glow?
After a full charge, the stickers glow in complete darkness for several hours, the sticker sheets and the glow film for over 6 hours. The glow is strongest in the first few minutes. It then gradually fades into a faint glimmer. Once your eyes have adjusted to the dark, you can see it for much longer. The planets can then still be made out after 8 hours.
How much light a sticker stores depends on the light source. The brighter it is, the brighter and longer the sticker glows. A spot near a window or lamp charges the designs automatically in everyday use. Sunlight and UV light charge fastest. The page Afterglow explained describes exactly how it works.
Can the stickers be removed again?
The fairy-tale stickers and several sticker sheets can be removed again, even though they adhere well. According to the product information, the glow stars and the monsters leave little residue. On delicate wallpaper, peel the sticker off slowly and carefully. Whether an item is described as removable is stated in its properties.
Which stickers suit a child's room?
A child's room suits designs that keep children company as they fall asleep without dazzling them. The fairy-tale stickers are deliberately soft for this purpose. A starry sky of glow stars or glow dots works on the ceiling, a moon or the planets above the bed. With the letters you can put a name on the door.
Tip: Leave the room light on briefly in the evening before bedtime. That is enough to charge the designs for the night.
Good to know
Afterglow is decoration and an aid to orientation, not lighting. It is only visible in real darkness. Even a street lamp outside the window can outshine the effect. The glow film does not replace any mandatory safety signage. For heavily used areas such as stair treads, glow in the dark paint with clear varnish is more suitable.
