What is epoxy casting resin?

Epoxy casting resin is a two-component system of resin and hardener that cures at room temperature into a solid, clear plastic once mixed. Our system cures slowly: air bubbles have time to rise, and layers of up to 3 cm can be poured in one go. It is suitable for cast and art objects, jewellery, decoration, filling tree trunks, furniture coatings and sealing.

The key processing values

Pot life is the time during which the mixed resin remains workable.

Mixing ratio100 : 47 by weight, e.g. 200 g resin and 94 g hardener
Layer thicknessup to 3 cm per pour, thicker in several layers
Pot life (1,000 g mix)approx. 12 h 40 min at 20 °C, approx. 2 h 20 min at 30 °C
Curingat room temperature; fully cured after approx. 14 days at a minimum of 23 °C; post-curing above 40 °C possible

How to add glow pigments to casting resin

  1. Weigh out resin and hardener and stir slowly but thoroughly, including the sides and bottom.
  2. Let the resin thicken briefly until it is slightly thicker.
  3. Stir in approx. 20% pure pigment relative to the resin – not ready-made glow in the dark paint. Test on a small sample first.
  4. Pour and leave to cure at room temperature; remove rising air bubbles with a heat gun.

Tip: In thin, runny resin glow pigments sink, so mainly the underside glows. For a glowing surface, add the pigment to a separate top layer. You can also embed glow granules. The mixing calculator works out the right amount of pigment.

Good to know

Resin (signal word “Warning”) and hardener (signal word “Danger”) carry hazard statements: the resin irritates the skin and eyes and may cause an allergic skin reaction; the hardener is harmful if swallowed or in contact with skin and causes serious eye damage. Both are toxic to aquatic life. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection and work in a well-ventilated area. Dispose of residues and containers in accordance with local regulations. All information is in the data sheet under safety data sheets, which we will also send you on request.

Frequently asked questions

Can I measure resin and hardener by volume?
The mixing ratio of 100 : 47 applies by weight. Weigh both parts on a scale.
Why does only the underside of my casting glow?
The pigment sank while the resin was still thin and runny. Let the resin thicken briefly before stirring it in, or pour the pigment into a separate top layer.
How do I cast objects thicker than 3 cm?
In several layers, for example for river tables. Each layer can be up to 3 cm thick.
When is the resin fully cured?
It is fully chemically cured after approx. 14 days at a minimum of 23 °C. Small quantities cure more slowly, large and warm quantities faster.
What is included in the set?
1 kg epoxy resin 100, 0.5 kg hardener S49 and detailed instructions. Processing instructions and the technical data sheet are also available for download.
