What is glow film?
Glow film is a self-adhesive vinyl film with glow pigment from which you cut your own shapes. The pigment, based on strontium aluminate, stores daylight or lamplight and releases it in the dark, without electricity and as often as you like. Each sheet is DIN A4 and can also be printed on.
Yellow-green or blue-green?
Yellow-green glows most strongly of all our glow films; blue-green glows slightly less strongly and looks cooler in the dark. Both are visible for over 6 hours after a full charge in complete darkness. They glow most strongly in the first few minutes, after which the glow fades into a weaker glimmer.
How to cut and apply the film
- Draw your design on the back and cut it out with scissors, a craft knife or a cutting plotter.
- Clean the surface and let it dry.
- Peel off the backing on the reverse and stick the film in place.
- Charge with light: daylight at the window or the ceiling light is enough.
The film sticks to smooth surfaces such as furniture, glass, tiles and plastic, as well as to woodchip wallpaper.
What is glow film used for?
Glow film is suited to markers and your own designs in exactly the shape you need. Examples:
- Markers on light switches and door handles
- Orientation points in hallways or cellars
- Stars and your own designs on walls or ceilings
- Decoration on containers, candle jars and flowerpots
You can refresh individual markers in a few seconds with a UV torch. Ready-cut stars and dots are available among the sticker sheets.
Good to know
Outdoors, only apply the film where it is sheltered from the weather, for example on a window or letterbox. If it is exposed to rain, snow or abrasion, also cover it with a transparent protective film. For stair treads and other heavily used areas, glow in the dark paint with clear varnish is more suitable. The film does not replace any mandatory safety signage. Afterglow is an aid to orientation, not lighting, and is only visible in real darkness. Find out more under Afterglow explained and in the overview Stickers and films.
