Mixing Calculator: How Much Glow Powder Do I Need?

Carrier
Amount of carrier
For epoxy, enter resin + hardener combined. 1 ml counts as approx. 1 g.
Glow intensity

You need approx. 20 g glow powder (20 %) – e.g. 1 × 40 g

How much glow powder you need depends mainly on the carrier, i.e. the material you stir the pigment into. In transparent carriers such as clear varnish or epoxy resin, less pigment is needed than in opaque carriers such as white wall paint, because light can get in and out freely. The calculator gives you a starting point for your quantity.

How we calculate

  • Transparent carriers (epoxy and casting resin, clear varnish, glue, wax, silicone): starting point 20% pigment relative to the carrier; economical 15%, strong 30%.
  • Opaque, light carriers (white or pale yellow wall and acrylic paint): starting point 40%; economical 30%, strong 50%.
  • For epoxy resin, enter the total amount of resin and hardener. We count 1 ml of carrier as approx. 1 g.

Good to know

More pigment glows more intensely, but above about 30% in clear carriers the gain is small. Dark carriers absorb glow – lighten them or prime the surface in a light colour. Always test each mixture on a small sample first. Mixing into concrete and screed does not work well: press granules into the fresh surface there, or apply a transparent layer containing pigment.
