Blue-green is the popular alternative to classic green: the glow looks more harmonious and less “chemical”, and it is one of the strongest shades. In daylight the powder is whitish and barely noticeable in light-coloured carriers. It absorbs light and releases it in the dark as a blue-green glow – without electricity and as often as you like.

Properties

  • Material: strontium aluminate doped with europium and dysprosium, with a protective coating – which makes it water-resistant
  • Afterglow duration: up to 12 hours after a full charge in complete darkness; at its most intense in the first few minutes
  • Particle size: approx. 85 µm (1 µm = one thousandth of a millimetre) – fine enough for brushes and casting resin
  • Charging: with any light source, fastest with UV light or sunlight (a few minutes)
  • Heat-resistant: the pure pigment withstands up to 1,200 °C
  • Classification: not classified as hazardous under CLP – see safety data sheet

How to use the glow powder

The pigment does not dissolve; it is stirred into a carrier: epoxy and casting resin, clear varnish, acrylic paint, glue, wallpaper paste, wax or silicone. As a starting point we recommend approx. 20% pigment relative to the carrier; in opaque carriers such as white wall paint, rather 30–50%. Test the mixture on a small sample first.

  • The more transparent and lighter the carrier, the stronger the glow. Prime dark surfaces in a light colour first.
  • In thin, runny resin the pigment sinks: let the resin thicken briefly, then stir it in.
  • Outdoors, use weather-resistant clear varnishes or epoxy; indoors, solvent-free carriers such as clear varnish or wallpaper paste are suitable.

What's included

40 g glow powder Blue-Green in a resealable poly bag.

Good to know

Afterglow is an aid for orientation and effects, not lighting: it is visible in real darkness, barely under a street lamp. The raw pigment is not a toy. When processing larger quantities, avoid dust and contact with skin and eyes.

Frequently asked questions

How much glow powder do I need?
As a starting point, approx. 20% relative to the carrier – so about 20 g per 100 ml of varnish. In opaque carriers such as white wall paint, 30–50%. More pigment glows brighter, but above about 30% in clear carriers it adds little. 40 g is therefore enough for around 200 ml of clear carrier.
What is the difference between blue-green and green?
Green is the base shade and glows most intensely. Blue-green also glows strongly and for a long time, but looks cooler and more harmonious. Both are whitish in daylight.
What charges the powder and how long does it take?
Any light source. Guide values for a full charge: UV light from 365 nm 2–4 minutes, sunlight 6–9 minutes, fluorescent lamp 20–24 minutes, incandescent bulb approx. 25 minutes. It then glows most intensely and then gradually fades.
Is the glow powder water-resistant?
Yes. Thanks to its protective coating, the pigment itself is water-resistant and does not dissolve; in water it sinks. How weather-resistant the finished object is depends on the carrier – outdoors, use a weather-resistant clear varnish or epoxy.
Does the powder also glow under black light?
Yes. The pigments have an afterglow (phosphorescent) and also fluoresce under UV or black light. The lighter the daylight colour, the more vivid the fluorescence.
Are the pigments radioactive?
No – like all modern glow pigments. The glow comes solely from stored light.
