How does glow watercolour work?
Glow watercolour is watercolour paint with glow-in-the-dark pigments: by day you see a normal watercolour, in a dark room the picture glows exactly where the paint is. The daylight colour comes from the tint, the glow from the pigments. That is why each shade looks different in the dark than by day.
Which set suits you?
Both sets contain 5 colours and a water brush; they differ in their daylight colours. Each set comes in a box with a clear lid, and the paints are made by hand.
| Set | By day | In the dark |
|---|---|---|
| Rainbow | orange, red, yellow, green and blue | different for each shade, red glows greenish |
| Herbstzauber | two light cream shades, dark grey, ochre and violet | shades of green and blue |
How to paint with glow watercolour
- Fill the brush's tank with water and moisten the paint in the pan.
- Paint as usual and let the picture dry.
- Place the picture in the sun for a few minutes or hold it under a bright lamp.
- Look at it in a dark room – it glows most intensely in the first few minutes.
White paper and a generous application of paint glow more strongly than thin washes. Plan your motif for both views. You will find templates among the colouring pages.
Good to know
The picture glows for several hours, depending on the shade, after a full charge in complete darkness; tinted shades glow for a shorter time. A true red afterglow is technically not possible; read more under afterglow explained. The paints are intended for painting on paper, not for skin. We will send you the safety data sheet on request. For canvas, wood or stone, the glow in the dark paint is suitable; you will find all paints under glow paints & varnishes.
