What are glow-in-the-dark building bricks?
Glow-in-the-dark building bricks are bricks made of ABS plastic that store light and release it again in the dark. The glow pigment is inside the material itself, not in a coating. That is why it cannot flake off. The bricks glow without batteries, cables or electronics.
Which bricks and plates are available?
The range includes 2x4 bricks in four colours, a mixed set and baseplates. The daylight colour and the glow colour in the dark sometimes differ:
| Item | Daylight colour | Glow colour in the dark | Contents |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2x4 bricks yellow | yellow | green-yellow | 100 pieces |
| 2x4 bricks green | light green | green | 100 pieces |
| 2x4 bricks blue | blue | green-blue | 100 pieces |
| 2x4 bricks transparent | clear | green | 100 pieces |
| Mixed set | transparent, orange, green, blue | mixed, depending on the brick | 104 bricks in various sizes |
| Baseplates | green | green | 2 plates, 25 × 25 cm each, 32 × 32 studs |
Your planned use helps you choose: yellow bricks suit windows, lamps and vehicle lights. Blue bricks work for water surfaces, green ones for lanterns, lighthouses or a haunted house. Transparent bricks look like clear standard bricks by day and only glow green in the dark, for example as windows or headlights.
Do the bricks fit existing building bricks?
Yes, the bricks and plates are compatible with common building brick systems. The 2x4 bricks have the usual standard size, and the studs on the baseplates follow the widely used standard. This lets you add to existing models in a targeted way: as windows, lanterns, headlights, roofs or path markers. On the baseplates the whole surface glows, and your models stand out against it as silhouettes.
How to charge the bricks
The bricks charge in a few minutes with sunlight or a bright lamp:
- Place the bricks or the finished model in direct sunlight or under a bright lamp for a few minutes.
- Darken the room well.
- Give your eyes some time to adjust to the dark. The glow then stays visible for longer.
Sunlight charges more strongly than room light, which gives a weaker glow. You can repeat the charging as often as you like.
How long do the bricks glow?
After charging in sunlight, the bricks are clearly visible for around 1 hour in complete darkness. With eyes adjusted to the dark, the glow can be seen for up to 2 hours. It is an effect for a properly darkened room, not lighting. The basics are covered in Afterglow explained.

- Tested to EN 71 parts 1–3, as required for toys. We will send you the test report on request.
- Not suitable for children under the age of 3.
