Which planets are available as glow in the dark stickers?
Available individually are the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and the dwarf planet Pluto, each 30 cm in diameter. Saturn with its ring system measures approx. 13 × 30 cm. Jupiter is included in the “Solar System” set. The full moon comes in three sizes as well.
| Design | Individually | In the Solar System set |
|---|---|---|
| Sun | 30 cm | approx. 30 cm |
| Mercury | 30 cm | 10 cm |
| Venus | 30 cm | 15 cm |
| Earth | 30 cm | 17 cm |
| Mars | 30 cm | 12 cm |
| Jupiter | – | 28 cm |
| Saturn | approx. 13 × 30 cm | 13 × 30 cm |
| Uranus | 30 cm | 20 cm |
| Neptune | 30 cm | 20 cm |

| Moon | 12, 30 or 40 cm | – |
All figures are diameters; for Saturn, height × width.
Individual planets or the set?
The set suits you if you want the whole solar system at once; individual planets suit you if you want to build it up bit by bit. In the set, the Sun and eight planets are made in proportion to one another, from approx. 10 cm (Mercury) to 30 cm (Sun). The whole set weighs approx. 300 g. The individual planets, by contrast, are all the same size.
Which moon size is right?
The moon size depends on the role it should play on your wall. 12 cm works as a small accent, for example alongside glow stars on the ceiling. 30 cm is the same size as the individual planets. 40 cm makes an eye-catcher above the bed or on an empty wall.
How to apply planets to a wall or ceiling
A planet goes up without drilling, tools or extra glue. What matters is a surface that is as smooth as possible:
- Clean the surface: it should be smooth, dry and free of dust and grease. Woodchip wallpaper works as long as the texture is not too coarse.
- Peel off the backing film, align the design and smooth it down from the centre outwards.
- Before first use, hold it close to a bright lamp or in sunlight for about half a minute, then switch off the light.
The self-adhesive vinyl film sticks to walls, doors, wardrobe fronts or ceilings. On heavily textured surfaces it holds less well than on smooth ones.
How should you arrange the planets?
You can arrange the planets freely, because each design is stuck on separately. Options include a row above the bed, an orbit around the Sun, a spot above the desk or an entire wall. Place the planets near a window or lamp if possible. The brighter the light source when charging, the brighter and longer they glow.
How do the planets glow in the dark?
In the dark, all planets and the moon glow green, regardless of their daylight colour. During the day they show the photorealistic print, such as the craters of Mercury or the bands of Saturn. The glow pigment is strontium aluminate. After a full charge, the stickers glow in complete darkness for several hours. They are strongest in the first few minutes, after which the glow fades into a faint glimmer. To eyes adjusted to the dark, they can still be made out after 8 hours. The stickers are intended for indoor use and serve as decoration and orientation, not as lighting. You will find more designs for a child's room among the fairy-tale stickers and in the overview Stickers and films.
