The phosphorescent powder coating is a satin-matt clear powder coating based on polyester. You process it like other powder coatings and get a coating that glows blue-green in the dark – indoors and outdoors. By day it looks semi-transparent greenish white.

Properties

  • Type: clear powder coating based on polyester, satin matt
  • Substrates: metal as well as glass, ceramics and clay
  • Application: manual coating using the tribo or corona method
  • Colour: semi-transparent greenish white by day, blue-green in the dark
  • Charging: best with daylight or UV light, also with lamps and torches
  • Surface: smooth, scratch-resistant, resistant to weathering and splash water, heat-, colour- and dimensionally stable, corrosion-protective; for indoor and outdoor use
  • Origin: Made in Germany

How to coat correctly

  1. Prepare the surface as for any powder coating.
  2. For a strong afterglow, coat onto a white base – the clear coating lets the base show through.
  3. Apply the powder coating by tribo or corona manual coating; recommended film thickness 80–100 µm.
  4. Curing: 8–15 minutes at 160 °C or 5–10 minutes at 180 °C object temperature.
  5. Test on a sample piece first: brightness and afterglow duration depend on the area, film thickness and charge.

What's included

1 kg phosphorescent powder coating blue-green in a resealable bag.

Good to know

Afterglow is an aid for orientation and effects, not a light source: it becomes visible in real darkness. Shelf life 18 months, stored dry and not above 25 °C. The powder coating is classified as hazardous under CLP (signal word “Danger”): it causes serious eye damage (H318), may cause an allergic skin reaction (H317) and is harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects (H412). Do not breathe dust, wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection, and avoid release to the environment. People with respiratory problems or allergies should not handle powder coatings. Details in the safety data sheet under “Downloads”.

Frequently asked questions

How is the powder coating applied?
Like other powder coatings: apply it to the prepared surface by tribo or corona manual coating. Recommended film thickness 80–100 µm; cure for 8–15 minutes at 160 °C or 5–10 minutes at 180 °C object temperature. For the strongest glow, coat onto a white base.
Which substrates does the powder coating adhere to?
Metallic substrates as well as glass, ceramics and clay.
How long does the coating glow?
Several hours after a full charge in complete darkness, most intensely in the first few minutes. How bright and how long depends on the area, the film thickness and how strongly and how long you charge it.
How much area does 1 kg cover?
That cannot be said in general. Consumption depends on the workpiece, the film thickness and the application. It is best to test on a sample piece first.
Can I use the powder coating outdoors?
Yes, the coating is suitable for indoor and outdoor use and is weather-resistant. Outdoors, the glow is only visible where it is really dark.
Is the powder coating radioactive?
No – like all modern glow pigments. The glow comes solely from stored light.
