Fine glow granules for stirring into casting resin, varnish or glue and for scattering. They absorb light and release it in the dark as a pink glow – without electricity and as often as you like. The grain is tinted a bold pink – by day as well as in the dark. For technical reasons, darkly tinted shades glow considerably more weakly and for a shorter time than green.

Properties

  • Material: strontium aluminate doped with europium and dysprosium
  • Grain size: fine, approx. 0.5–1 mm
  • Afterglow duration: up to 2 hours after a full charge in complete darkness; strongest in the first few minutes
  • Colour: pink by day, pink in the dark
  • Temperature: tinted grain – do not heat above approx. 150 °C
  • Classification: not classified as hazardous under CLP – see safety data sheet

How to use the glow granules

The granules are worked into a carrier or scattered loose: epoxy and casting resin, resin, clear varnish, glue, grout, wax or silicone. Typical uses are river tables, resin jewellery and coasters, mould making and decoration.

  • Casting resin: in thin resin the grains sink. Let the resin thicken briefly, then stir them in and distribute quickly – or add the granules to the top layer only.
  • Sprinkling: sprinkle onto still-wet varnish, glue or resin and press lightly; then protect smooth surfaces with clear varnish.
  • Concrete, paving, joints: press into the still-wet surface and grind flush once cured – or embed in a transparent, walk-on layer.
  • Outdoors: use solvent-based, weatherproof carriers such as epoxy or exterior clear varnish.
  • The clearer and lighter the carrier, the stronger the glow. Prime dark surfaces in a light colour first.

What's included

100 g glow granules pink, grain size approx. 0.5–1 mm, in a poly bag.

Good to know

Afterglow is an orientation and effect aid, not lighting: it becomes visible in real darkness, but hardly under a street lamp. The 1 mm granules are not waterproof: in water they dissolve to a greater or lesser extent over time, and the glow effect is lost. For use in or near water, embed the grains in resin or a water-resistant clear varnish – or use the 4 mm granules, in which the pigment is bound in synthetic resin. The granules are a material, not a toy.

Frequently asked questions

How long do the pink granules glow?
Up to 2 hours after a full charge in complete darkness. They are strongest in the first few minutes; after 1–2 hours the glow fades into a glimmer.
What charges the granules and how long does it take?
Any light source. Guide values for a full charge: UV light from 365 nm 2–4 minutes, sunlight 6–9 minutes, fluorescent lamp 20–24 minutes, incandescent bulb about 25 minutes. After that they glow at their strongest and gradually weaken.
How do I work the granules into casting resin?
In thin resin the grains sink. Let the resin thicken briefly, then stir in the granules and distribute them quickly. Alternatively, add them to the top layer only. The clearer the resin, the stronger the glow.
Why does pink glow more weakly than green?
Green is the base shade of all glow pigments. For pink, the grain is tinted, and the colour absorbs part of the light. That is why pink glows more weakly and for a shorter time: up to 2 hours after a full charge in complete darkness. If a long afterglow is what you need most, choose green or blue-green.
Is the material radioactive?
No – like all modern glow pigments. The glow comes solely from stored light.
Can the 1 mm granules go in water, for example in an aquarium or a vase?
No. The 1 mm granules are not waterproof: in water they dissolve to a greater or lesser extent over time, and the glow effect is lost. For water, the 4 mm granules are suitable, in which the pigment is bound in synthetic resin – or you can embed the fine grains in resin or a water-resistant clear varnish.
