This blue is undyed: in daylight the powder is whitish with a slight blue tint, making it the most colour-neutral of all glow pigments. In the dark it glows blue – slightly weaker than green and blue-green, but much stronger than dyed shades. The right choice if the pigment should stay as invisible as possible by day.

Properties

  • Material: strontium aluminate doped with europium and dysprosium, with a protective coating – which makes it water-resistant
  • Afterglow duration: up to 12 hours after full charging in complete darkness; at its strongest in the first few minutes
  • Particle size: approx. 70 µm (1 µm = one thousandth of a millimetre)
  • Charging: with any light source, fastest with UV light or sunlight (a few minutes)
  • Heat-resistant: the pure pigment withstands up to 1,200 °C
  • Classification: not classified as hazardous under CLP – see safety data sheet

How to use the glow powder

The pigment does not dissolve; it is stirred into a carrier: epoxy and casting resin, clear varnish, acrylic paint, glue, paste, wax or silicone. As a starting point we recommend approx. 20% pigment relative to the carrier; in opaque carriers such as white wall paint, rather 30–50%. Test the mixture on a small sample first.

  • The more transparent and lighter the carrier, the stronger the glow. Prime dark surfaces in a light colour first.
  • In thin, runny resin the pigment sinks: let the resin thicken slightly, then stir it in.
  • For outdoor use, choose weatherproof clear varnishes or epoxy; indoors, solvent-free carriers such as clear varnish or wallpaper paste are suitable.

What's included

40 g or 100 g glow powder blue in a resealable poly bag.

Good to know

Afterglow is an aid to orientation and a visual effect, not a light source: it becomes visible in real darkness, hardly under a street lamp. The raw pigment is not a toy. When working with larger quantities, avoid dust and contact with skin and eyes.

Frequently asked questions

How much glow powder do I need?
As a starting point, approx. 20% relative to the carrier – so about 20 g per 100 ml of varnish. In opaque carriers such as white wall paint, 30–50%. More pigment glows more brightly, but above about 30% in clear carriers it adds little. 40 g is therefore enough for around 200 ml, 100 g for around 500 ml, of clear carrier.
How does this blue differ from a strong blue glow powder?
This blue is undyed: whitish by day, glowing strongly in the dark and suitable for high temperatures. Dyed blue has a strong blue shade by day, but glows more weakly and for a shorter time, and should not be used above approx. 150 °C.
Does blue glow as strongly as green?
Almost. Green and blue-green glow most strongly, undyed blue slightly less. Dyed shades such as orange, pink or purple glow much more weakly.
What charges the powder and how long does it take?
Any light source. Guide values for full charging: UV light from 365 nm 2–4 minutes, sunlight 6–9 minutes, fluorescent lamp 20–24 minutes, incandescent bulb about 25 minutes. Afterwards it glows at its strongest and gradually fades.
Is the glow powder water-resistant?
Yes. Thanks to its protective coating, the pigment itself is water-resistant and does not dissolve; in water it sinks. How weatherproof the finished object is depends on the carrier – outdoors, use a weatherproof clear varnish or epoxy.
Are the pigments radioactive?
No – like all modern glow pigments. The glow comes solely from stored light.
