Purple by day and purple in the dark: this pigment is strongly tinted and adds a touch of colour even in daylight. After charging with UV light, it glows purple in the dark. Like all darkly tinted shades, it glows much more weakly and for a shorter time than green or blue.

Properties

  • Material: strontium aluminate doped with europium and dysprosium, with a protective coating – which makes it water-resistant
  • Afterglow duration: up to 2 hours after a full charge in complete darkness
  • Colour: purple by day, purple in the dark
  • Particle size: approx. 20–30 µm (1 µm = one thousandth of a millimetre)
  • Charging: ideally with UV light or sunlight; normal room light only excites it weakly
  • Temperature: tinted pigment – do not use above approx. 150 °C
  • Classification: not classified as hazardous under CLP – see safety data sheet

How to use the glow powder

The pigment does not dissolve; it is stirred into a carrier: epoxy and casting resin, clear varnish, acrylic paint, glue, wallpaper paste, wax or silicone. As a starting point we recommend approx. 20% pigment relative to the carrier; in opaque carriers such as white wall paint, rather 30–50%. Test the mixture on a small sample first.

  • The more transparent and lighter the carrier, the stronger the glow. Prime dark surfaces in a light colour first.
  • In thin, runny resin the pigment sinks: let the resin thicken briefly, then stir it in.
  • Outdoors, use weather-resistant clear varnishes or epoxy; indoors, solvent-free carriers such as clear varnish or wallpaper paste are suitable.

What's included

40 g glow powder Purple-Purple in a poly bag.

Good to know

Darkly tinted pigments are a colour and effect shade, not lighting. For a long, strong afterglow, green, blue-green or blue are better suited. The raw pigment is not a toy. When processing larger quantities, avoid dust and contact with skin and eyes.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Purple-Purple glow more weakly than green?
Green is the base shade of all glow pigments. Purple is created by tinting, and the tint absorbs part of the light. In addition, purple can only really be excited with UV light.
How do I charge Purple-Purple most effectively?
With sunlight or a UV lamp from 365 nm. Normal room light only excites purple weakly – how much depends on the lamp.
What is the difference from glow powder Purple?
Glow powder Purple is whitish by day and barely noticeable. Purple-Purple is a strong purple even by day. Both glow purple in the dark.
Can I process Purple-Purple with heat?
Only to a limited extent. Tinted pigments should not be used above approx. 150 °C, because the daylight colour can decompose.
How much glow powder do I need?
As a starting point, approx. 20% relative to the carrier – so about 20 g per 100 ml of varnish. In opaque carriers such as white wall paint, 30–50%. More pigment glows brighter, but above about 30% in clear carriers it adds little. 40 g is therefore enough for around 200 ml of clear carrier.
