Pink-Purple is a strong pink-purple colour in daylight and has a purple afterglow in the dark after charging. The colour stands out clearly by day. To charge, purple needs UV light or sunlight – with normal room light it hardly glows.

Properties

  • Material: strontium aluminate doped with europium and dysprosium, with a protective coating – which makes it water-resistant
  • Colour: strong pink-purple in daylight, purple in the dark
  • Afterglow duration: up to 2 hours after a full charge in complete darkness; at its strongest in the first few minutes
  • Particle size: approx. 20–30 µm (1 µm = one thousandth of a millimetre)
  • Charging: ideally with UV light or sunlight; the purple component hardly charges with room light
  • Heat: tinted pigment – do not process above approx. 150 °C
  • Classification: not classified as hazardous under CLP – see safety data sheet

How to use the glow powder

The pigment does not dissolve but is stirred into a carrier: epoxy and casting resin, clear varnish, acrylic paint, adhesive, wallpaper paste, wax or silicone. As a starting point we recommend approx. 20% pigment, relative to the carrier; in opaque carriers such as white wall paint rather 30–50%. Test the mix on a small sample first.

  • The more transparent and lighter the carrier, the stronger the glow. Prime dark surfaces in a light colour first.
  • In thin, runny resin the pigment sinks: let the resin thicken slightly, then stir it in.
  • You can also scatter the powder onto tacky surfaces such as adhesive, wax or paste, or apply it in clear varnish with an airbrush.
  • For outdoor use, choose weather-resistant clear varnishes or epoxy.

What's included

40 g glow powder Pink-Purple in a resealable poly bag.

Good to know

For technical reasons, purple glows considerably more weakly and for a shorter time than green or blue-green and needs UV light to charge. In return, the powder shows a strong colour even by day. Afterglow is an aid for orientation and effect, not lighting: it becomes visible in real darkness, but hardly under a street lamp. Colours look different in photos depending on the camera and the charge. The raw pigment is not a toy. When working with larger quantities, avoid dust and contact with skin and eyes.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Pink-Purple glow compared with other colours?
Pink-Purple glows for up to 2 hours after a full charge in complete darkness. The pigments with a whitish daylight colour and a green or blue afterglow glow the longest and strongest – up to 12 hours. The glow is at its strongest in the first few minutes; after 1–2 hours it turns into a faint glimmer.
Why does my pigment hardly glow?
The purple component hardly charges with normal room light. Charge it with UV light or sunlight and the glow will be considerably stronger. Overall, purple glows more weakly than green or blue.
How much glow powder do I need?
As a starting point, approx. 20% relative to the carrier – about 20 g per 100 ml of varnish. In opaque carriers such as white wall paint 30–50%. 40 g is therefore enough for around 200 ml of clear carrier. Test the mix on a small sample first.
Does the powder also glow under black light?
Yes. The pigments also fluoresce under UV or black light. The lighter and more vivid the daylight colour, the more vivid the fluorescence. The afterglow, on the other hand, is only visible when the light is off.
Can I mix different glow powders?
Yes, but not like liquid paint according to colour theory: the grains remain individually visible and no new mixed shade is created. Mixing a weak shade with a little green or blue-green extends the afterglow; on closer inspection the stronger grains then stand out.
